Team skullz and barbells was founded by Ryan Blakeley in November 2014 as a competitive bodybuilding team. Within the first year 70% of team skullz and barbells athletes have placed Top Five in both NPC and WBFF competitions. Ryan prides himself and the team name on bringing in lean, hard, and conditioned athletes – from bikini to bodybuilding. See for yourself in the Athletes section of the webpage.

Ryan has an extensive and awarded athletic background. In 2003, Ryan graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. During his time at the Citadel, Ryan was a member of the lacrosse team, acting as Team Captain from 2000-2003. He received leading scorer of the team and conference four years in a row, all offense, all conference, Citadel MVP two years in a row, as well as All American Honorable Mention during his junior year.

After graduation Ryan completed the Police Corps Program where he was awarded the Class Leadership Award and began working as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Charleston County, South Carolina. During his eight years as a Sheriff’s Deputy, Ryan boasted +30 foot pursuit apprehensions, and received four Running Shoe of the Year Awards. While working for the Sheriff’s Department, Ryan also served as a member of the SWAT team for six years.

Ryan created skullz and barbells with the intentions of guiding athletes into the sport of bodybuilding the right way! Ryan does not believe that politics and hype build an athlete or a strong competitor, but hard work, dedication, and sacrifice do. Ryan forged skullz and barbells for the athlete’s in mind, inspiring and guiding them from day one – till show time – leaving the athlete stress free!

In a sport as subjective as bodybuilding, skullz and barbells stands apart in that it is a team founded by an athlete for the athletes. Team skullz and barbells is devoted to helping individuals train to reach a new personal best with each training program.
